An exclusive extract from my second novel This Is Fine
Meet Padma and her niece Myra, and read about their lives entangling over a summer
Hello everyone, it is with greatest pleasure that I share the first exclusive extract from my second novel This Is Fine, which book empress
described as being ‘gorgeous and affirming’ and an endorsement from Taylor Jenkins Reid who said: “I will read anything Poorna writes”.It is out on 13 June and follows the journey of a 30-something woman named Padma, who is in a 10-year relationship which is…fine, until it hits a crisis point around whether they should have children. At the same time, her 15-year-old niece Myra reaches a crisis point of her own, causing Padma’s younger sister Daisy to despair about what to do with her over the summer holidays.
Padma and Daisy hardly have the closest relationship, which has meant that she doesn’t really know Myra all that well. However, out of desperation, Daisy asks her older sister to take Myra away for the summer. Neither of them want to be there, by the Kent seaside, and it’s starting to feel and smell like exile. But during their time there, they figure out some important stuff around love, self worth and reconciling the ghosts in their family history. The book touches on themes of addiction and mental health, but above all it is about a sense of purpose and reclaiming our right to life that is more than just fine.
I hope you enjoy it!
