To celebrate my new book She Wanted More coming out 26 Feb, Bookshop.org have created a special discount code for my paid subscribers, which I’ll put at the bottom of the post!

Welcome to my stream of consciousness post about book launch parties when you are an author about to publish a book! A trigger warning - if you are currently struggling to sell your first book and/or get an agent, this is going to come across as entitled and ‘what the HELL is she talking about I’d be so happy to have this as a problem’ so to preserve your inner peace, you may want to click off and watch a soothing video of someone icing cupcakes.

However, if you’d like a peek behind the curtain of the romanticisation around book writing versus the reality of it, read on.

As I’m on the cusp of publishing my sixth book, I’ve been asked what I’m doing for the ‘launch day’ and I replied: nothing. Well, that’s not strictly true. I’m spending it with a very small, specific number of people - more on that later. But I’m no longer buying into the candy floss myth of book launches and I’m no longer scrolling over videos and pictures of other people’s book launches like an envious goblin while furiously stuffing Wotsits into my mouth. I am detaching with love, and it feels fucking great.
