I don’t want to blow my own horn (tooot) but writing is everything I am, and everything I know. It’s what I can remember doing well from an early age (mathematics and I mutually parted ways after it was revealed I had no aptitude for numbers). Therefore it’s fitting that nearly a month into launching this Substack, I’m announcing the start of a writing series that you’ll be able to access on here as a subscriber.
I’ve written four books - three non-fiction and one fiction - and am in the processing of editing the manuscript for my second fiction book. The first two were published by Simon & Schuster, the third by Bluebird/Pan Macmillan, and my fiction books are published by Century/Penguin.
Alongside this, I’ve also worked as a journalist for 20 years, across a number of different mediums - magazines, newsroom journalism, and in the last few years, opinion writing. (I have a regular column with The i Paper). In case you missed my About page, I’ve written for The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian, Grazia, Stylist, Cosmopolitan, Red magazine and others, and I used to be the Executive Editor for HuffPost UK.
To that end, I’d like to share some of this knowledge with my paid subscribers. The Writer’s Club will consist of monthly chats - where you can ask me questions about writing, and I’ll also write posts explaining aspects of writing. That might range from how I got my agent, tips from industry professionals, how I meet deadlines and so on.
If you’d like access to this you’ll need a paid subscription, which for now is £5 a month (it will be increasing in a week’s time), and you’ll have access to anything and everything I can answer. To get involved, you can either send me your questions on poornabell@substack.com or wait for the first writer’s monthly chat which will be announced in two weeks. Happy writing!
