Hmm..I did this recently and actually it's an over-simplification to presume those that go do so simply to promote things. You actually feel the loss of an audience you've had for years. This was the case with me anyway.
Personally I think whatever reasons someone has to quit Insta - whether they have a lot of followers or just a handful - is completely their own choice and whatever reasons they have for returning are likewise completely their own. But the announcements when people leave are tiring, not least of which because it makes the other people who still use the platform feel as if they are somehow doing something wrong by still staying, and also creating an unnecessary rod for their own back should they choose to return.
